The electronic toll collection using a portable terminal in the payment by means of a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), based on the principle of teletag. This terminal is operated by a collector that has enough autonomy and capacity of data, which manages information gathered by means of communication between an electronic device installed in vehicles (TAGs) and a receiving antenna.
Solving the payment as if it was a lane is very useful for the toll collection on vehicles on board of vessels. Tecsidel has implemented the collection while crossing with a PDA in the Ferry of Fosen, Trondheim, Norway, and also for the Torpoint Ferry which crosses the river Tamar in Plymouth, United Kingdom. Other applications of the portable terminal is that it allows the resolution of incidents and detection of defective TAGs on vehicles as one of its features is the tag validation and verification of its authenticity before carrying out the transaction.
The portable terminal uses a Tecsidels software to be operated, an invoice printer (optional) and a barcode reader (optional). The software has a graphical interface that allows registering transactions, as well as introducing or modifying parameters manually. The device is regularly put in a charging station with connection to the central system for the exchange of data.
